William J. Quinones-Baldrich, MD

William J. Quiñones-Baldrich is currently Professor of Surgery at the University of California Los Angeles. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and received his medical degree from the University Of Puerto Rico School Of Medicine in 1977. From 1977 through 1982 he obtained general surgery training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
In 1984 he completed a vascular fellowship at the University of California Los Angeles. He is Board Certified in Vascular Surgery. Dr. Quiñones-Baldrich has been intimately involved in the development of endovascular grafting for abdominal aortic aneurysms, having performed the initial evaluation of the EVT endovascular graft, the first FDA approved endovascular graft for minimally invasive treatment of aortic aneurysms. He was the first to describe the “hybrid approach” for repair of complex aortic disease in 1999.
Other interests include complete endovascular repair of aortic pathology, combined surgical/endovascular repair of aortic arch aneurysms/ dissections, and reconstruction of the vena cava for retroperitoneal tumor resections. Dr. Quiñones-Baldrich is a member of many prestigious surgical societies, including the American Surgical Association.
He was President of the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, President of the Bay Surgical Society, President of the Southern California Vascular Surgical Society, and President of the Western Vascular Society. He was President of Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery 2016-17 and is a member of their Executive Council.
He has published over 150 articles in vascular journals and has 55 chapters in major textbooks of vascular surgery. He has over 330 regional, national and international scientific presentations. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Annals of Vascular Surgery and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, the premier journal of the specialty. He is the Director of the UCLA Aortic Center where he has a very active Vascular and Endovascular practice.
